ST. JOHN, US Virgin Islands (2 Mar 2001) -- Eco tourism pioneer Stanley Selengut and eco business entrepreneur Jean-Michel Cousteau, have joined together to offer eco adventure vacations in St. John called "Ambassadors of the Environment." The partnership will combine Cousteau's environmental education products, Selengut's eco-friendly Maho Bay resort and the pristine Virgin Islands National Park habitat. "Ambassadors to the Environment" adds a whole new dimension to our work," said Selengut. "We've always offered snorkeling, kayaking and scuba diving. Now guests not only can enjoy the ocean but learn how to take care of it." Billed as a "recycled resort," Maho Bay is designed to produce as little impact on the environment as possible. Appliances are low-energy and solar-powered, wastewater is treated on-site and used for irrigation, and buildings are constructed using recycled tires, bottles and wood. | | "Stanley Selengut practices what we've been preaching about conserving endangered resources," said Cousteau. "I see the coral reef as a city under the sea, teeming with life, mystery and valuable information. It offers lessons which directly apply to how we can live more gently on the planet." "Ambassadors to the Environment" participants will pay approximately $1250 to observe the fragile coral reefs, sea grass beds and endangered mangroves to better understand their value and ecological connections. In addition to explorations of forests and ancient Indian cultures, land-based activities will include workshops on solar technology, recycling, composting, organic gardening and other practical aspects of environmentally responsible living. Evening activities include night dives, films, discussions and entertainment. © CDNN - CYBER DIVER NEWS NETWORK |
