We commend the Belize Tourism Board for acting decisively to shut down Advanced Diving and permanently ban Vance Cabral and Henry Mark Tucker from participation in commercial diving activities.  There can be no excuse for sloppiness in the operation of a dive vessel nor the deliberate violation of certification requirements that aim to protect boat passengers and diver safety.

At the same time, we would be remiss not to point out that once again diver stupidity, ignorance and greed cost the life of someone whose fatal mistake was to follow the consensus of a group that started the day wrong by seeking out the one dive boat operator in town who was willing to go 20 miles offshore despite small craft warnings.

Bottom line? The boat operator lost his license--the tourist diver lost her life. Think about it next time you feel a bit uneasy about the dive.
