CAYMAN ISLANDS (21 July 2001) -- Cayman Airways (CAL), the troubled state-subsidized flag carrier of the Cayman Islands, has resumed flights with all three of its aircraft. CAL officials told CDNN that engines have been replaced on two of its three aircraft and the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has inspected the repairs and cleared the planes to return to normal service after being grounded for 10 days. CAL decided to ground the aircraft on July 11 after two of its planes experienced mechanical problems during the first week of July. Miami Air took over the flights on a subcontract basis. | | On July 3, one of CAL's aircraft was grounded on Cayman Brac after spilling engine parts on the runway just prior to takeoff. A second flight on July 7 to Houston was forced to turn back to Grand Cayman due to a sudden drop in engine oil. © CDNN - CYBER DIVER NEWS NETWORK |
