BALI, Indonesia (3 Nov 2002) -- A 29-year-old Alaskan woman has been confirmed as among the nearly 200 people who died in the Al-Qaida linked terrorist bombings at Kuta Beach in Bali, Indonesia.

The body of Megan Heffernan was identified with dental records sent to Bali by her father, a resident of Florida.

Heffernan, a college teacher in South Korea, went to Bali with several friends on a four-day scuba diving trip.

After diving on Saturday, she and two other women in the group went shopping at Kuta Beach where a car bomb exploded just before midnight, killing Heffernan and nearly 200 others.

Many of the victims died in a huge blaze that quickly engulfed more than a dozen buildings after the explosion.

Heffernan was born in Fairbanks, grew up in Eagle River and moved to Oregon in 1992 where she attended George Fox College near Portland.

After graduating in 1996, Heffernan moved to Korea where she taught at Kyungnam College of Information and Technology in Busan.
