DEMA trade show group announces board members

SAN DIEGO, California (21 Jan 2003) -- The controversial dive industry lobbyist and trade show group known as the Diving Equipment and Marketing Association (DEMA) has announced the results of its Board of Directors election.

The following individuals will serve on the 2003 DEMA Board of Directors (an * denotes members who are new to the board):

A1 Manufacturers and Distributors of Diving Equipment:

Daniel Babcock, Cramer-Decker Industries

Robert Hollis, Oceanic *

 

A2 Diver Certification and Training Agencies:

Bob Clark, SSI *

John Cronin, PADI

 

A3 Diving Publications, Media, Diving Industry Consultants, Associations and Non-Retail Service Providers:

Dane Farnum. Rodale's Scuba Diving

Dave Freygang, Sport Diver Magazine *

 

A4 Retail Distribution of Diving Goods and Services:

Heather Powell, Annapolis Scuba Center *

Carl Vincenti, Ocean Concepts Scuba

 

A5 Dive Travel and Resorts:

Wayne Hasson, Aggressor Fleet *

Hans Ullrich, Ocean Encounters

 

The new Board of Directors will be sworn in during the first meeting of the new board, which is scheduled for February.

Financed by some 1300 dive-related companies including many small US-based dive stores, DEMA runs an annual dive industry trade show, lobbies against conservation and safety regulations, and is currently leading a fight against environmentalists and government conservation officials to overthrow Florida's recent ban on shark feeding and other harassment of marine life.
