TOKYO, Japan (16 May 2003) -- In a signal of continued weak travel demand, Japan Airlines announced yesterday a further reduction in flight frequencies on 16 routes, including to Guam and Saipan. On the Tokyo-Guam route, the airline will reduce flights from 14 a week to seven a week between June 1 and July 14. On the Nagoya-Guam route, JAL will reduce frequency from seven to three flights a week. JAL also is consolidating the Osaka-Guam and Osaka-Saipan routes, which originally had seven flights a week each. The consolidation means seven flights a week for a combined Osaka-Guam-Saipan-Osaka route, according to the airline's schedule. | | The changes reflect reduced passenger demand after the Iraq war and the outbreak of SARS in Asia, according to the airline. JAL also announced flight reductions affecting flights from Japan to such destinations as Honolulu, Hong Kong, Bangkok, Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Seoul, Taipei and Paris. SOURCE - PDN |
