ROANOKE, Virginia (4 Dec 2004) -- Fire Safety Products Inc. based in Christiansburg Virginia has been indicted on charges of mail fraud, conspiracy and making false statements.

The company, its president Randall Maxwell, vice president Gilbert Maxwell, and office manager Allen Dickerson were charged with billing customers for certification of scuba diving tanks and other compressed gas cylinders that were never actually inspected according to federal safety testing requirements.

According to US federal law, scuba diving tanks and other compressed gas cylinders are considered hazardous materials and must be tested periodically under regulations established by the US Department of Transportation.

In addition to scuba tanks, medical oxygen cylinders, firefighter air packs and carbon dioxide fire extinguishers were listed in the indictment.
