SONOMA COUNTY, California (21 Jan 2008) — A man convicted twice for poaching in the previous year has been arrested again and charged with poaching abalone. Mark Fresquez, 50, was arrested near Fort Ross State Park in Northern California and taken to Sonoma County Jail where he is being held in lieu of $3,000 bail. Authorities told CDNN Fresquez had been put under surveillance after they were tipped off that he intended to go diving for abalone. When police closed in on Fresquez at Fort Ross State Park, they caught him with 11 abalone during the closed season. In May and November, Fresquez was convicted of violating California state law which allows divers to take three abalone during the open season. "The guy is clearly not getting the message," said California Fish and Game Warden Patrick Foy. © CDNN - CYBER DIVER NEWS NETWORK |
