Scuba poacher arrested in Gibraltar

GIBRALTAR — Police arrested a Spanish national caught fishing with scuba diving equipment in Rosia Bay.

Authorities have not yet identified the diver but told CDNN the male suspect is a resident of Algeciras in his mid-40s.

Officers from the Marine Section of the Royal Gibraltar Police said they seized the suspect's scuba diving equipment and seven kilos of sea anemones found in his possession.

Considered a delicacy in southern Spain, sea anenomes are not a protected species but under Gibraltar law, divers cannot remove anythng from the sea while using scuba diving equipment.

Police said the suspect was released after posting bail and the anenomes were returned to the sea.
