TALIPAO, Philippines (7 May 2000) -- Government forces clashed with Muslim extremists holding 21 foreign hostages this morning. Mortar shells exploded near the rebel hideout and one rebel was wounded but none of the hostages were injured in the fighting. The rebels moved the hostages deeper into the jungle and vowed to hold out for six months if their demands are not satisfied.
