PATIKUL, Jolo Island, Philippines (25 May 2000) -- Muslim rebels again cancelled plans to start formal talks on Friday.

Government officials said the rebels called off the talks because they moved the hostages.

Roberto Aventajado, who leads the government negotiating team, said he expects the talks to begin on Saturday.

Reports from doctors who have seen the hostages indicate that many of the hostages are ill, depressed and some are suicidal.

"We want to be out, that's the message we want to send," said Lebonese hostage Marie Moarbes. "We cannot wait any longer and no one seems to care."
