SUVA, Fiji (19 June 2000) -- Six shots were fired as a group of armed ethnic Fijians stormed a police station where an Indian was being held.

Military and police surrounded the police station and a team of negotiators was sent in to resolve the crisis.

The group, believed to be supporters of rebel leader George Speight, agreed to lay down their arms and were taken into custody without bloodshed.

Meanwhile, Fiji's dive operator association has blamed the collapse of Fiji's tourism industry on media exaggeration.  "What's the big deal?" asked one dive shop owner.  "The fish are still cute and friendly."
