JOLO, Philippines (20 June 2000) -- No surprise! Abu Sayyaf rebels have finally made it official. It's all about money.

The rebels are demanding $1m per hostage or a total of $21m for the release of all 21 hostages abducted from a Sipadan diving resort on April 23.

Philippine government officials have ruled out any ransom payments.

The only meeting in two months between negotiators and rebels took place on May 27.
