SUVA, Fiji (27 June 2000) -- After receiving news that the military refused rebel demands to participate in the interim government, rebel leader George Speight responded by watching soccer all day on TV.

Speight, the would-be prime minister of Fiji, demonstrates daily that a failed insurance salesman can't do any better as a coup leader.

Six weeks into the coup, the international community has imposed sanctions, tourists have disappeared, Fiji's economy is in ruin, the rebels have lost much of their support and the military has cut off negotiations with a man whose racist agenda is drawing criticism from many indigenous Fijians.
