JOLO, Philippines (4 July 2000) -- Little more than a week after one hostage was released, Abu Sayyaf Muslim bandits have taken a journalist hostage.

German correspondent Andreas Lorenz was forced out of his car at gunpoint, assaulted and dragged off by four gunmen.

It was the second time in a month Lorenz has been taken hostage.

He was held for 10 hours with a group of journalists last month until a ransom of $25,000 was paid.

The rebels have been holding 20 other foreign hostages since April 23 when they were abducted from a Sipadan diving resort.
