SUVA, Fiji (4 Aug 2000) -- Fiji soldiers have killed a supporter of rebel leader George Speight and arrested 37 in a military crackdown near Dreketi on the island of Vanua Levu. In recent weeks, rebels in the area have attacked Indo-Fijians, beating them, taking hostages and burning and looting their homes and businesses. More than 350 rebels have been arrested in the past week including Speight and his top aids who have been incarcerated on a prison island near the capital of Suva.
