SUVA, Fiji (25 Aug 2000) -- Now it's rebel leader George Speight's turn to wait.

A hearing on Speight's appeal to have treason charges dropped has been delayed until September 4.

Speight will remain incarcerated on an island prison off the coast of Suva with 16 accomplices who have also been charged with treason.

Speight led a group of armed terrorists who took Fiji's prime minister and cabinet hostage for 56 days. The coup sparked violence and bloodshed that spread throughout Fiji's islands.
