JOLO, Philippines (29 August 2000) -- Abu Sayyaf rebels have kidnapped 24-year-old American, Jeffrey Schilling and have threatened to kill him unless World Trade Center bomber, Ramzi Youssef and two other convicts are freed.

The US has demanded the immediate release of Schilling and ruled out any deals or ransom payments for his release.

Libya, which has successfully secured the release of six foreign hostages abducted from a Sipadan Island diving resort, has said it is prepared to work for Schilling's release.

Schilling is now being held in a rebel camp deep in the jungle with six other foreigners and at least a dozen Filipino hostages.
