WANGANUI, New Zealand (3 Oct 2000) -- Q-West Boat Builders and Technicraft Design have delivered an extremely fast and highly innovative catamaran to a dive resort client in Fiji.

'Lagilagi' has an overall length of 20m and is certified for 150 passengers and a crew of 4.

A combination of hydrofoil-assisted aluminum hulls and a four-engine/four jet propulsion system gives 'Lagilagi' a maximum speed of 38 knots and a full-load cruising speed of 30 knots.

Technicraft is a pioneer in the development of foil-assisted hull forms which reduce power and fuel requirements by lowering hull resistance.  Unlike conventional hydrofoils, foil-assisted hulls do not lift the vessel completely out of the water.

'Lagilagi' has been designed primarily as a fast ferry to move tourists and dive travellers around the northern islands of Fiji.
