SUVA, Fiji (2 Nov 2000) -- Fiji's interim political leaders, who have been internationally condemned as the product of an unconstitutional overthrow of a democratically elected government, have reiterated their intention to deny 44% of Fijian citizens equal political rights. Acting Prime Minister, Laisenia Qarase, has again stated that the multiracial and multiethnic constitution will be trashed and Indo-Fijians will be forbidden from participating in policy making decisions. Qarase said that the new constitution will guarantee ethnic Fijians control of the government and control of the country. Fiji's apartheid policies have resulted in international sanctions, expulsion from the Commonwealth and severe economic damage to its garment and tourist industries. © CDNN - CYBER DIVER NEWS NETWORK |
