PETROPAVLOVSK-KAMCHATSKY, Russia (6 Aug 2005) --  PREPARATIONS were made today for an emergency resurfacing of a Russian mini-submarine with a seven-man crew aboard as a British undersea robot cut debris in which the vessel was tangled, a Russian navy spokesman said.

"Steps have been taken to clear the area of the operation for the planned resurfacing of the AS-28 submarine," Interfax news agency quoted a spokesman for the Russian Pacific Fleet which is coordinating the rescue operation as saying.

"The propeller has been totally unblocked. The crew has confirmed it is prepared for an emergency resurfacing," the spokesman, Captain Alexander Kosolapov, said.
