PLATTSBURG, Missouri (16 Sep 2005) -- An adjunct professor who taught scuba diving at Missouri Western State University pled guilty to attempting to have sex with an underage girl.

Michael Marriott, 54, was busted by police who posed as an underage girl in an internet chatroom.

Police arrested Marriott after he went to Utica, a small town in northwestern Missouri, to have sex with the girl.

Marriott, a St. Joseph city employee, pled guilty to second-degree attempted statutory rape and second-degree attempted statutory sodomy.

As part of a plea agreement for five years of supervised probation, Marriott must register as a sex offender.
