PROVIDENCE, Rhode Island (17 Feb 2006) -- The chief medical examiner for Miami/Dade County in Florida said this morning that after reviewing the evidence in the scuba diving death of Shelley Tyre he believed "this is a homicidal drowning."

Dr. Bruce A. Hyma said "some type of terminal violence occurred that deprived her of her air supply.'' That violence, he said, was caused "by another individual.''

Hyma was testifying in the wrongful-death civil suit filed against Tyre's former husband, David Swain, of Jamestown.

Swain is accused of killing his wife, 46, almost seven years ago during a scuba-diving vacation in the Caribbean waters off Tortola.

The Tortola police said at the time that Tyre and Swain, both experienced divers, became separated as they were diving over the wrecks of two tugboats.
