DONEGAL, Ireland (8 Mar 2007) -- The High Court awarded $660,000 to a widow who sued a BSAC instructor and the Sheephaven Sub Aqua Club for the scuba diving death of her husband.

John McGarvey, a novice scuba diver, died on May 19, 2002 while diving under the supervision of BSAC instructor Donal McEleney and the Sheephaven Sub Aqua Club.

According to testimony, McGarvey drowned after off Melmore Head in Downings after he ran out of air.

Mary McGarvey sued for damages alleging that BSAC instructor McEleney and BSAC member facility Sheephaven Sub Aqua Club failed to take adequate safety precautions to safeguard her husband's life.

The defendants denied the accusations.
