PLYMOUTH, UK (2 Sep 2007) -- Anthony Robert Walker has been charged with perverting the course of justice in a fraud scheme that involved a gang of at least four dive industry insiders. Walker, 53, who was the director of Fort Bovisand Diver Training Ltd, will appear in court on September 14 with four others who have already been charged with conspiracy to defraud the NHS, Britain's national healthcare system. The gang includes Walker (aka "Tony") from Marldon, Paignton; David Welsh, 50, from Pomphlett Road, Plymstock; his brother Raymond Welsh, 47, from Harlow, Essex; scuba diving instructor Michael Brass, 43, from Liverpool; and James Chandler, 42, also from Liverpool. The gang allegedly defrauded the NHS by falsely claiming payments for hyperbaric medical treatment for scuba divers with decompression sickness. The scam started in June 12, 1998 and continued through June 18, 2002. | | Four dive industry insiders including a dive company director and a scuba diving instructor have been charged with defrauding NHS and then attempting to cover up their crimes.
