Popular high school teacher dies during scuba diving course

CHICAGO, Illinois (10 May 2005) -- A popular Chicago high school teacher died while scuba diving in a quarry near Kankakee.

Robert Kusler, 58, drowned while doing a certification dive with a scuba diving instructor.

Few details were available, however, police told CDNN the accident is under investigation and the county coroner has ruled out a heart attack.

Kusler was a popular high school chemistry teacher and technology coordinator at Washington High School on the southeast side of Chicago.
