ENCINITAS, California (15 May 2005) -- A scuba diver nearly drowned off Seaside Beach in Encinitas when she lost her balance in the surf.

Fire rescue officials told CDNN the 44-year-old female diver was with five other scuba divers, including a professional divemaster, when the accident happened.

At about 11am, just after the divers entered the water, the woman lost her balance in the surf and could not recover due to improper weighting.

Despite nearly drowning, the woman refused to be transported to hospital for medical care.
