TAEAN, Korea (14 June 2005) -- A female diver was injured after being attacked by a shark at a depth of about 10 meters while diving off Kaeui Island off the west coast of Taean County.

The 38-year-old diver suffered a serious leg injury but managed to escape with her life and was rushed by boat to a local hospital.

Shark expert Professor Choi Yoon of Kunsan National University examined photographs of the diver's leg wounds and told reporters he believes the victim was attacked by a 3-meter long great white shark.

It was the first shark attack in South Korea since 1996 when a male diver was bitten to death in the same area.
