FORT LAUDERDALE, Florida (21 June 2005) -- Police are investigating the mysterious death of a crew member of the Nekton Rorqual liveaboard.

D. J. Pottorf, 34, died diving off Orange Cay in the Bahamas late Monday afternoon, however, the Nekton Rorqual did not return to base nor report the accident until Tuesday when the boat returned to base in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

Witnesses aboard the dive boat told police Pottorf was free diving when the accident happened.

After finding Pottorf unresponsive in the water, he was pulled back aboard the boat where Nekton Rorqual crew initiated CPR and other first aid without success.

The next day the liveaboard vessel returned to the dock at 2150 SE 17th St. in Fort Lauderdale when Nekton Diving Cruises finally notified police of the death of a company employee.
