STONEY LAKE, Ontario (27 June 2005) -- A female scuba diver panicked and died while scuba diving at Stoney Lake in Ontario Canada.

The woman was diving with Ajax Scuba Club, a non-profit organization renowned for its safe and thorough scuba training courses.

Witnesses said the woman suddenly panicked at a depth of about 12 meters (40 feet) during a training exercise designed to help divers improve their buoyancy control.  The woman's buddy was unable to get her to the surface.

The Ajax Scuba Club divemaster supervising the dive brought the unconscious diver to the surface and immediately initiated CPR, however, he and paramedics called to the scene were unable to revive the victim.

An autopsy has been ordered.
