Connecticut man dies scuba diving in Fishers Island Sound

NEW LONDON, Connecticut (14 Aug 2005) -- Police have not yet released the identitiy of a man in his 40s who died scuba diving in Fishers Island Sound.

The victim's dive buddy alerted a passing boat of a diving emergency and people aboard the vessel called the Coast Guard at about 1 p.m..

Both the Coast Guard and Stonington police responded to the emergency and the victim was rushed to The Westerly Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Police told CDNN that the probable cause of death was drowning.

An autopsy has been scheduled.
