ADELAIDE, Australia (24 Aug 2005) -- DIVERS off Adelaide's most popular beach are "shark bait" and a fatal accident waiting to happen, an Adelaide fisherman says. Keith Klemasz was in a boat in waters off Glenelg when a cuttlefish research diver was taken and presumed killed by a shark today. Mr Klemasz said he was not surprised to hear of the attack at a tyre reef 2km offshore at Glenelg. Numerous boats were in nearby waters at the time of the attack, which happened within 1km of where a teenage surfer was killed by a shark last December. "It is crazy, they are shark bait ... but I suppose they enjoy the thrill," Mr Klemasz said. "I'm not surprised. "It's very unfortunate ... but I don't think it's a good idea to dive when you have got a lot of boats out. "It (a shark attack) was just a matter of time. "It's a feeding pattern – if we are all putting berley in the water, that will attract them (sharks)". | | Great white shark killed scuba diver off Adelaide. Another boatsman, Alby Dixon, was on a vessel about 100m from where the cuttlefish researcher was attacked. "We were that close and we didn't even realise it had happened," Mr Dixon said. "I saw them diving but I didn't see any signs of distress." A search for the missing diver will resume at dawn tomorrow. |
