Candlelight vigil to be held missing diver

BRICK, New Jersey (7 Oct 2005) -- There will be a candlelight vigil at 5 p.m. today at Brick Beach I, 310 Route 35 North, to remember Christopher "Lou'' Fabiano, a 52-year-old diver who went missing during a scallop dive on Sunday morning.

Nancy Fish of Jackson, a family friend, said the event is going to be held whether it is raining or not.

"We are just telling everybody to bring an umbrella,'' Fish said.

Divers and mariners intensified their efforts Thursday to find Fabiano, who has been declared a missing person by authorities. They had started later than planned because of an early morning fog on the water, friends said.

The Fabiano family, including wife Jacqueline, and daughters Melissa and JoAnna, had recently moved to Dover Township after being longtime residents of the Cherry Quay section of Brick.

The family has been embraced by the marine community and the support is overwhelming, said Jacqueline Fabiano. The efforts to find her husband are much appreciated.

"He wanted to be cremated and have his ashes put out to sea,'' she said Thursday. "I just want to bring him home. I just want to be able to cremate him and put him back out there.''
