Californian dies scuba diving on Great Barrier Reef

CAIRNS, Australia (20 Feb 2006) -- A tourist from California died while scuba diving on the Great Barrier Reef.

The victim was a 64-year-old male who encountered problems at depth while scuba diving at Saxon Reef near Cairns.

The diver had no pulse and was not breathing when he was pulled from the water.

Attempts to revive the diver with CPR failed and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

 

The victim was transported to Cairns by helicopter.
