COZUMEL, Mexico (3 Mar 2006) -- The Mexican Government claims it is close to resolving the investigation into the death of Croydon-born singer Kirsty MacColl. Kirsty's mum Jean has campaigned for five years to gain justice for the 41-year-old who died in December 2000. Kirsty was killed after being struck by a speedboat off the coast of Mexico as she was scuba diving. Now Ruben Aguilar, spokesman for Mexico's President Vicente Fox, said that federal investigators will soon resolve the case. At a news conference, Mr Aguilar said: "The investigation has to offer results. The Federal Government is following this situation." The legal battle has resulted in a legal action for perjury against one of the most powerful men in Mexico - the boat's owner Gonzalez Nova - and against two of his relatives. The writ now requires them to provide written evidence to a court. | | Kirsty MacColl died scuba diving in Cozumel in December 2000.
