OTTAWA, Canada (10 Apr 2006) --  Searchers recovered the body of a soldier from the waters of the Petawawa River on Sunday, three days after he went missing.

Pte. Alex Padulo, 24, of CFB Petawawa, disappeared near dusk on Thursday while diving with a recreational diving club.

The other divers lost sight of Padulo just before 6 p.m. in fast moving waters at the mouth of the Ottawa and Petawawa rivers.

They said Padulo appeared to be in distress just before he vanished from sight.

The search was conducted by military and police divers.
