BRIGHTON, UK (3 June 2006) -- A British diver died while scuba diving off the north coast of France.

The 50-year-old male victim was found unconscious at the surface after ascending too rapidly from a depth of 48 meters (157 feet) some 32 kilometers off Le Havre.

The victim was with a group of seven divers aboard the Seabreeze 3, which is based in Brighton.

The French coastguard sent a doctor after receiving a call for help from the crew of the Seabreeze 3, but he was unable to revive the stricken diver.

UK coastguard officials issued a statement warning scuba divers to ascend slowly.
