SEATTLE, Washington (19 July 2006) -- A woman died Tuesday evening while scuba diving with friends off Alki Beach in Puget Sound.

Cheryl Marshall, 50, was found unconscious and without a pulse at the surface after running out of air at a depth of about 30 meters (100 ft).

According to unconfirmed reports, Marshall and her buddy attempted an alternate air source ascent but something went wrong on the way to the surface.

With the help of a jet ski operator who saw people signaling for help, Marshall was pulled to a pier off Harbor Avenue where Fire Rescue paramedics were standing by after receiving a 911 call.

At the pier, paramedics initiated CPR but were unable to revive her.

The victim was taken to Harborview Medical Center where she was pronounced dead.
