DINGLE, Ireland (20 July 2006) -- Details of the tragic last moments of a 25-year-old Lancashire teacher who died while diving in Ireland have been revealed at an inquest. The hearing heard that Heather Schofield, a teacher at the private, co-ed Moorland boarding school in Clitheroe, became separated from her dive buddy when he became distressed during what should have been a routine dive. John Beresford had told an inquest in Ireland that he had signalled to Heather, from Hurst Green, that he was unable to continue the dive off the Dingle Peninsula. Disorientated In his statement, which was read to the inquest at Blackburn Coroner's Court, he said he was disorientated and admitted he could not be sure she had seen his signal. | | Deputy coroner Carolyn Singleton said Mr Bersford's statement did not explain what had happened to Heather after he had surfaced. "Unfortunately, I am not aware of anyone who can say what happened," said Mrs Singleton. She recorded a verdict of misadventure.
