FARNE ISLANDS, UK (8 Aug 2006) -- A 13-year-old boy and a man flown to hospital after suffering the bends while diving have made a full recovery. The boy and his guardian, both experienced divers, were treated in a decompression chamber at Hull Royal Infirmary, the Coastguard said. They got into difficulties near the Farne Islands, off the Northumberland coast, on Saturday. A spokeswoman for the Coastguard said they were airlifted to hospital and had recovered from their ordeal. An RAF rescue helicopter was scrambled from Boulmer to rescue the pair. | | The bends - or decompression sickness - is caused by divers returning to the surface too quickly.
