British tourist drowns scuba diving in Spain

BENIDORM, Spain (29 Aug 2006) -- A British tourist drowned while scuba diving off the coast of Benidorm in Spain.

According to local authorities, the victim ran out of air.

The 47-year-old male diver was scuba diving near Cala del Tio Ximo with other divers who called for help after the accident.

Benidorm police responded to the distress call with a high-speed launch and brought the man to port where an ambulance was waiting.

 

The ambulance took the diver to Clinica Benidorm where he was pronounced dead.

The scuba diving accident is under investigation and police have not yet released the name of the victim.
