CHASKA, Minnesota (29 Aug 2006) -- A key member of the 'Diving a Dream' team drowned while scuba diving in an old pit mine in Crow Wing County near Crosby Minnesota.

According to the Crow Wing County Sheriff's Office, Jere Thorne, 47, had been scuba diving for about 10 to 15 minutes when his scuba diving equipment apparently malfunctioned.

As the 'Road Trip Coordinator' for the 'Diving a Dream' project, Thorne was planning to take Matt Johnston to the November DEMA show in Florida in his recreational vehicle, and then on to the Florida Keys for Johnston's first open water dive.

Johnston, who suffers from muscular dystrophy, launched the project to realize his dream of scuba diving and inspire others to fulfill their ambitions.

According to media reports, Thorne's family declined to comment on the tragedy and Johnston could not be reached.
