JOHNSON'S BEACH, Ontario (31 Aug 2006) -- A man drowned after a scuba diving accident in Kempenfelt Bay.

According to Barrie Police, the tragedy may have resulted from the diver's unfamiliarity with both the dive site and the scuba diving equipment he was using.

The victim was pulled ashore at Johnson's Beach by his dive buddy who called for help and initiated CPR.

The Barrie Police and Georgian Ambulance paramedics responded to the emergency and arrived at the scene of the accident at about 3:30pm.

The victim was rushed to Royal Victoria Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The accident is under investigation and the victim's name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
