NEW YORK (10 Sep 2006) -- The Coast Guard suspended its search at 1:00 p.m. today for a diver reported missing 9:00 this morning from a dive near Ambrose Light.

The master of the dive vessel Karen reported the diver missing after he had been under the water for over an hour.

The diver resurfaced after the initial distress call, but then reportedly submerged without a mask.

Coast Guard, and the New York City Police and Fire Departments rescue crews immediately launched a massive multi-agency search, but did not locate the missing diver.

A Coast Guard rescue boat crew from Station Sandy Hook and a Coast Guard helicopter rescue crew from Air Station Atlantic City joined the search, and provided a safety zone for NYPD divers.
