ST. AUGUSTINE, Florida (3 Oct 2006) -- An autopsy performed by the St. Johns County medical examiner failed to determine why a dive instructor died while scuba diving on Saturday.

Officials with the St. Johns County Sheriff's Office said the medical examiner is waiting for the results of toxicology tests, which may help to determine the cause of death.

William David Newman, 40, was diving with two other divers about 45 miles off the coast of St. Augustine when something went wrong at a depth of 38m (125 ft).

When the other divers found Newman, he was unconscious on the bottom and his regulator was not in his mouth.

After bringing the victim to the surface, the other divers tried to call for help on the boat's radio but it malfunctioned.
