PORTLAND, UK (29 Oct 2006) -- A UK diver was airlifted to hospital after a freak scuba diving accident off the coast of Dorset.

The male scuba diver was accidentally caught in the net of a trawler and pulled into the fishing boat from a depth of 14 meters.

Coastguard officials told CDNN the diver, whose name has not yet been released, suffered the bends after the unplanned ascent.

The coastguard scrambled a helicopter, which took the diver from the 'Shiraz' trawler located east of Portland to Poole.

The injured diver was treated for decompression illness in a hyperbaric chamber and discharged.

The accident is under investigation by the Portland Coastguard.
