Police, firefighters search for missing scuba diver

TACOMA, Washington (10 Nov 2006) -- Police and firefighters are searching for a scuba diver who went missing on Thursday night off the Ruston Way waterfront.

The missing diver, whose name has not yet been released, was among six people night diving near the Lobster Shop restaurant.

According to other divers in the group, the missing diver signaled that he wanted to ascend after encountering problems at depth.

All of the divers started to ascend in limited visibility but the distressed diver never reached the surface.

 

The other divers immediately called for help and the police and fire department responded with a search boats and a helicopter.

The search was suspended at midnight and resumed Friday morning.
