Japanese tourist in critical condition after AAA Diving accident off Oahu

HONOLULU, Oahu (22 Nov 2006) -- A Japanese tourist is in critical condition after a scuba diving accident in Hawaii.

The diver was among a group of Japanese divers who had chartered a dive boat owned and operated by AAA Diving in Oahu.

The scuba diving accident occurred at Kewalo Basin harbor at a depth of about 12 meters (40 feet).

The diver was found unconscious at the surface and pulled back onto the boat where the boat crew initiated CPR.

AAA Diving rushed the injured diver back to port where emergency paramedics took over.

The diver was taken to Straub Clinic and Hospital where he is listed in critical condition.

Alex Mason of Oahu-based AAA Diving said the critically injured diver was not participating in an introductory scuba diving course.
