MELBOURNE, Australia (15 Jan 2007) -- A member of Monash University's scuba diving club lost consciousness and died while diving off Queenscliff in Port Phillip Bay.

Police said the 60-year-old male diver was diving with a friend when he encountered problems and lost consciousness at depth.

The buddy diver brought the victim to the surface, pulled him aboard the dive boat and administered CPR as the vessel sped back to shore where an ambulance crew was standing by.

The ambulance rushed the unconscious diver to hospital where he was pronounced dead.
