DORSET, UK (26 Feb 2007) -- A female scuba diver was airlifted to hospital after a scuba diving accident off the coast of Dorset.

The dive boat crew called for help after the diver lost consciousness.

The Portland Coastguard scrambled a helicopter, which took the injured diver and her dive buddy to Poole hospital.

Both divers were treated at the Poole hospital recompression chamber and are expected to recover.

The Coastguard said it was the first scuba diving accident of the year and issued an early warning to UK divers.

"We would like to remind anyone considering undertaking the sport of diving that they have full training and carried out the necessary medical assessments for them to participate in the sport safely," said coastguard watch manger Ros Evans.
